Bekir Ünlüataer’s “Geçen Yüzyıl” project reinterprets the works of the influential artists who shaped Turkish music during the first century of the Republic through a contemporary musical perspective.

Inspired by prominent artists of the Republican era, including Safiye Ayla, Münir Nurettin Selçuk, Refik Fersan, Muhlis Sebahattin Ezgi, and Neveser Kökdeş, “Geçen Yüzyıl” revisits powerful melodies from the past through a quartet approach and original arrangements.

Going beyond a nostalgic or academic recreation of these works, the project brings the sounds of the past together with today’s listeners, carrying this valuable musical heritage into the future through a fresh interpretation.
