“Son of the Sun” by Onur Ünlü is being adapted for the stage!

Considered one of the most distinctive films in Turkish cinema, Güneşin Oğlu — originally created by Onur Ünlü — is coming to the theatre stage as a Zorlu PSM production with a powerful cast of master actors and rising young talents. Bringing Onur Ünlü’s darkly comic cinematic universe to the stage, Güneşin Oğlu meets theatre audiences in a brand-new adaptation.

The play stars İbrahim Selim, Deniz Celiloğlu, İlayda Alişan, Beyti Engin, Ali Yoğurtcuoğlu, and Zeynep Kankonde, joined by Efekan Can, Sergen Özdemir, Ilgaz Kaya, and Selin Beliz Şahan.

Fikri Şemsigil has spent his entire life waiting for a miracle. At last, the miracle happens: he learns that he is the “Son of the Sun.” But instead of transforming his life for the better, this miracle turns everything upside down. Fikri Bey’s soul now begins entering and leaving the bodies of the people around him. Eventually, he realizes that in order to free himself from the very miracle he once longed for, he must uncover the truth. Events spiral completely out of control. And what about the breathtakingly beautiful young woman living in the apartment across the street?

With a unique stage language in which the actors create their own spaces on stage, and a pace that never slows for a moment, the play is co-directed by Onur Ünlü and Nagihan Gürkan.

Güneşin Oğlu premiered on December 5 at the Turkcell Platinum Stage.
