PSM LOVES SUMMER BY %100 MÜZİK: BAXTER DURY
Spinning wry, observant stories of life among the well-heeled yet poorly behaved, Baxter Dury is a songwriter and vocalist with a strong and distinctive style. After a tempestuous early life, he began his musical career by performing at a memorial service for his dad, pub rock/new wave icon Ian Dury.
He then produced a series of albums, beginning with 2002's Len Parrot's Memorial Lift, that balanced his deadpan vocals and debauched storytelling with subtle chamber pop arrangements and a nervy, modern new wave approach. By the time of 2017's Prince of Tears, some disco began to slip into his sound as he cemented his place as one of the wittiest, most biting songwriters of his era.
Baxter Dury, who started his musical life by a bittersweet coincidence by performing at the commemoration ceremony for his father, pub rock/new wave icon Ian Dury, has been producing in new wave, indie rock, indietronica, alternative pop and post-disco genres since 2002. Winking at the disco sound with the release of "Prince of Tears" in 2017, Baxter made his debut with this album. In the music of Baxter Dury, who was born on December 17, 1971 in Wingrave, Buckinghamshire, England, it is possible to breathe the calm air of England alongside all these genres.
Baxter Dury, who met his audience with his 2020 PIAS-label album “The Night Chancers”, was a slightly stripped-down, still quite lush album. Co-produced by longtime collaborator Craig Silvey, the record found Dury digging once again into the lyrically sordid underbelly of life. He has signed off on another important work with “Baxter (these are my friends)”, that he released in 2021 with Fred again…. Finally, Baxter Dury, who took his place on digital platforms with the single “D.O.A” in the same year, will sing his popular songs such as “Cocaine Man”, “Miami”, “I'm Not Your Dog” on the evening of 14 June as part of PSM Loves Summer by %100 Music at Zorlu PSM.
