IN THE BRILLIANCE OF ROMANTICISM
Finnegan Downie Dear, a graduate of the prestigious institutions Cambridge University and the Royal Academy of Music, is the guest conductor of this concert, which has a programme that is certain to please classical music listeners. Dear conducted many successful concerts after winning the Mahler Conducting Competition, where the jury spoke of his “rare combination of open heart and brilliant mind.” Last season, Dear performed with the Staatskapelle Berlin, Camerata Salzburg and Gothenburg Symphony Orchestras. The night’s soloist, Alexandra Conunova, has demonstrated her determination to master challenging repertoires by recording Prokofiev’s sonatas in her debut album. The 2021 Joseph Joachim Violin Competition winner, Conunova, has gained everyone’s attention with her warm tone and fluid virtuosity. Conunova, who has given concerts with ensembles such as the Orchestra de Paris, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande and the Russian National Orchestra, will meet with BIPO for the first time in this concert. Conunova will perform Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto in D Major, a work full of the subtleties of Tchaikovsky’s unique musical language, enriched with the stormy moods of his time and the colours, poems and melodies of his homeland. In the second half of the concert, BIPO will perform the “Pathétique Symphony”, which is not only one of Tchaikovsky’s technically and intellectually most profound works but also an emotional musical summit.
