Moderat

Moderat, formed from the collaboration between Apparat and Modeselektor, two dominant representatives of Berlin's electronic scene, is a perfect fit for the dynamic structure and lively atmosphere of Sónar Istanbul! Nearing its 15th year, this project has succeeded in becoming one of the top acts in the electronic music scene with their records, videos, and extraordinary live performances.
The brainchild of Apparat (Sascha Ring), who wanders through techno and ambient beats, and Modeselektor (Gernot Bronsert ve Sebastian Szary), the duo known for their experimental work influenced by a variety of genres from glitch and electro house to hip-hop, caused a stir in the electronic music scene on its debut, receiving critical acclaim from both fans and critics with their eponymous album in 2009. Their live performances which transform their music into  an incredible audiovisual experience were also  awarded on two seperate occasions in 2010. This recognition was followed by the release of II in 2013 and III this year, both establishing their place among the most successful records of their time.
Working with the Berlin-based design collective Pfanderei in music videos and live shows, Moderat has proven the potential of creativity from this collaboration with productions such as Bad Kingdom and Reminder. Most recently having released the album Live, a recording of their live performance in Berlin's Velodrom which was sold-out within minutes, the trio will carry their momentum to the stage of Sónar Istanbul  as they once again come together with the Istanbul audience!

Róisín Murphy

Relating her musical awakening with her attraction to "weirdos" starting from Manchester at the end of the 80s, renowned Irish singer, song writer and producer Róisín Murphy was influenced by musicians such as Sonic Youth, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Spaceman 3, Dinosaur Jr., My Bloody Valentine, Butthole Surfers, and later by The Stooges, The Velvets and The Angry Young Them.

Rising to fame with Moloko, the band she formed together with Mark Brydon, the Irish singer received critical acclaim between the late 90s and early 2000s especially with the success of the song titled Sing It Back. She continued to enjoy her success with her debut solo album Ruby Blue (2005) and second album Overpowered (2007). Maintaining a productive career after a hiatus that last nearly 5 years, Murphy released an EP titled Mi Senti (2014) and two studio albums: Hairless Toys (2015) and Take Her Up To Monto (2016). Mi Senti was an EP with covers of classic Italian songs and featured her second recent collaboration with Eddie Stevens, her close friend and producer of Hairless Toys as well as the second album of Moloko titled I Am Not A Doctor, which featured Sing It Back.

Nina Kraviz

This innovative DJ and producer has overcome many prejudices thanks to her flawless sets and an unbounded love of exploratory techno and dance music. Coveted by major festivals around the world and adored by an ever-growing number of loyal followers, Kraviz will be confirming her now global status at the Sónar Istanbul stage, where she will demonstrate her intention to always offer something different and unique in her sets. This dexterity is firmly on show on her forthcoming mix for the Fabric series, which will include unreleased tracks from AFX and Pete Namlook, as well as several of her own productions that have never been heard before.
Aside from her two CD format mixes (for Fabric and the legendary DJ Kicks series), Nina Kraviz recently launched her own label Trip (also written трип, in Cyrillic) on which she has released six compilations of heterogeneous techno (one of them inspired by Robert de Niro), as well as embracing emerging artists, especially Iceland's Bjarki. This year she has also joined BBC Radio1's Residency series, and has collaborated with mixes for websites and leading radio stations such as RinseFM, Beats In Space and the #savefabric initiative. Life as odontologist (a career she practiced for three years) and as a first-year student at the Red Bull Music Academy classrooms (2006) must seem like distant memory. Ten years on, Nina is now one of the leading characters in electronic music. Deservedly so.

Floating Points

Sam Shepard, or Floating Points as he is known throughout the global electronic music scene, attained a Ph.D. in neuroscience and epigenetics in University College London after his piano training in Chetnam's School of Music. While his doctoral studies were ongoing, Shepard went on with his music career, forming Eglo Records with DJ Alexander in 2009.

Making a name for himself with his singles and EPs that span a range of genres including funk, R&B, avant-garde jazz, techno, house and classical music, Floating Points received critical acclaim for his debut album Elaenia, which was released in November 2015. The album was released on Shepard's own Eglo Records label in the UK and on David Bryne's Luaka Bop label in the US, and was heralded  as the best album of the year by Resident Advisor.
Maintaining his productivity in 2016, Floating released a two-track EP titled Kuiper and a single called For Marmish Part II, a follow-up to For Marmish from Elaenia.

Having created brilliant mixes with esteemed musicians such as Jamie XX, Caribou and Four Tet, Floating Points will bring his gritty set to Sónar Istanbul, which will take place for the first time in Turkey on March 25th 2017 at Zorlu PSM!

DJ Koze

German DJ and music producer Stefan Kozalla, who uses the moniker DJ Koze on stage, owes his worldwide fame to his sets that combine various genres and sub-genres such as techno, tech house, minimal techno and hip-hop. He is still considered one of the most adventurous and innovative names of techno in the 21st century.

Having joined his first DMC (Disco Mix Club) contest when he was only 16 years old, Kozalla became second and proved his extraordinary ability. In the 1990's, he was a part of the German hip-hop act Fischmob and was using the moniker Adolf Noise. He started calling himself DJ Koze after releasing his mix album Music is Okay on the Yo Mama label and in time, became a prominent DJ of Kompakt, the renowned Cologne-based electronic label. Under Kompakt, he released Der Säger Von St. Georg (2003), which was in the compilation album Speicher 11; the maxi single titled The Geklöppel Continues (2003); the mix titled All My People Is My Friends (2004) and his album titled Kosi Comes Around (2005). He also produced two more albums; Wo Die Rammelwolle Fliegt (2005, Buback) and Amygdala (2013, Pampa Records).

Having compiled the 50th installment of !K7's DJ-Kicks series in 2015, DJ Koze once again proved his talent in house and hip-hop. He released similar compilation albums from his own Pampa Records as well; with appearances by Lawrence, Isolée and Gold Panda on Pampa Vol. 1 and compilations of his own remixes on Reincarnations: The Remix Chapter 2001-2009 and Reincarnations: The Remix Chapter 2009-2014. The Reincarnations series, his installment of the DJ-Kicks series and Pampa Vol. 1 all appeared in Billboard's Top Dance/Electronic Albums in the US.

Weval

Weval, the Dutch duo that consists of Harm Coolen and Merijn Scholte, is currently one of the most talked about groups in the electronic music scene. The Amsterdam-based duo, which harmonized various genres with electronic music and gained critical acclaim with their album released on the highly prestigious Kompakt label, will be in Zorlu PSM on December 10th! It would not be correct to simply label Weval's genre as electronic. The duo's success lies in regularly using elements of jazz, hip-hop, krautrock, pop and funk in songs, organically combining them and creating a whole. Signing with Kompakt, one of the most prestigious labels of electronic music, after releasing their first EP titled Half Age in 2013, Weval has succeeded in becoming one of the most intriguing names of the current electronic music scene with its unique sound and style. The name means "waterfall", which also reflects on their music. Their ability to melt different types of music in the same pot reminds one of a cascade. Weval's debut album, which is full of synth melodies that make your body move along with darker elements, consists of 12 songs. All of these songs contribute to the stunning performance of the duo. You can experience the performance of Weval, the new phenomenon of electronic music, in Zorlu PSM on December 10th!

Iradelphic (2012) was one of the most distinguished records of Clark's career. Honne

The astutely named Honne (the moniker comes from a Japanese term meaning "Real Intentions" or "True Feelings") have paved their way towards Sónar İstanbul with their electronic soul melodies. The duo consists of James Hatcher and Andy Clutterbuck, two artists who have embraced soul and synth in equal proportion in this project.

Starting out with inspiration from Al Green and Bill Withers, Honne released their first two EPs titled Warm on a Cold Night and All in the Value in 2014 on the Super Recordings label. The duo formed Tatemae Recordings in 2015 and released the two EPs that followed; Coastal Love and Over Lover on their own label. Their debut studio album Warm on a Cold Night, which had the same name as the first EP, came quickly after Gone After the Days EP in 2016 and was once again released on Tatemae. The Japanese characters on the cover of the album showed aesthetic beauty, as well as coherence with the philosophy of the band.

Having received huge success in many venues and festivals around Europe with its touring crew that consists of Naomi Scarlett on backing vocals, Duayne Sanford on the drums, Amadu Koroma on the bass and sound engineer Johnny Silveira; Honne is ready to carry its electronic soul melodies to Sónar İstanbul!

Having started her career as a DJ with her acid house, EBM/industrial and electro sets in the Hamburg based Golden Pudel Club, Helena Hauff made quite a name for herself with the night she hosted called Birds and Other Instruments. Preferring analog instruments in her music, Hauff redefined techno and electro with her records done in one take. She came across the music of artists such as The Cure and Karlheinz Stockhausen at a young age, having the chance to work with prestigious labels such as Werkdiscs, Ninja Tune, PAN and Blackest Ever Black throughout her career.

Having released her first EP Actio Reactio on Actress' Werkdiscs label in 2013, Helena Hauff went on with her works for Black Sites, her project with fellow Golden Pudel DJ F#x. As Black Sites released its EP titled Prototype on Bill Kouligas' label Pan, Hauff continued her collaborative work by joining Hypnobeat, James Dean Brown's project which produces analog experimental works on techno/industrial since 1983.

SonarLab by Red Bull Music Academy

Prins Thomas, the Norwegian electronic music DJ and producer, is known both for his DJ set's that brings disco, house, minimal techno and jazz fusion together, and his collaborative work with Hans Peter Lindstrom. Their first album was named after their collaboration; Lindstrom & Prins Thomas, and was released on the Eskimo Recordings label in 2005. Continuing his career in music, which started with him playing the bass in a number of bands, Thomas was influenced by the reemergeence of disco music in the 90s and artists such as DJ Strangefruit, leading him to to successfully mix various genres such as Miles Davis and The Doors, experiments that were considered crazy at the time.

In time, his own Full Pupp label became a platform for new neo-disco sounds, featuring new artists such as Blackbelt Andersen and Todd Terje, as well as showcasing Thomas' own work; EPs such as Goettsching (2005) and Fehrara (2006), as well as studio albums. His other label Internasjonal, formed to bring artists and producers from all over the world together, released the debut album by Serbian DJ Nenad Markovic, Kayto. While working as a producer, he was not negligent on his own artistry. Paradise Goulash (2015), which proved to be the Norwegian's most eclectic work with mixes from artists as diverse as Gabor Szabo, Wally Badarou and Kurt Vile, was quickly followed this year by Toransu EP and Principe del Norte, which shines out with its ambient and minimalistic style. 2017 will mark the year in which we witness the experimental disco sounds of Oslo share the stage with Thomas at Sónar.
