With his unique style, one of the most acclaimed blues artists of the recent years, Grammy award winner Fantastic Negrito, is coming to %100 Studio for another unforgettable concert as a part of PSM Jazz Festival on June 16th!
The name Fantastic Negrito represents Xavier’s third rebirth, literally coming back from death this time. Fantastic Negrito is the story of a man who struggled to “make it”, who “got it”, who “lost it” all, and somehow managed to find his way back.
His debut album, which he described as “A complete disaster”, was released in 1996. In 1999, Negrito was in a near-fatal car accident that left him in a coma for four weeks. Though he rehabbed intensely for several years. In 2007, he stopped making music, but he returned in 2014 with his new musical style as "black roots music for everyone”.
In 2015, he won Tiny Desk Contest, organized by one of the most respected news and culture art platforms in USA, NPR. Next year, his debut album under the name of Fantastic Negrito, “The Last Days of Oakland” was released. It received critical acclaim and he received the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Blues Album. He won his second Grammy for the same category at the 2019 Grammy Awards once again with his latest album "Please Don't Be Dead" which was released in 2018.
Xavier Dphrepaulezz – 2019
[“I’m a middle-aged guy who decided to write some songs, man; to write some music and make a contribution to the world I live in… I’m not making a record like Please Don’t Be Dead or Last Days of Oakland again. That’s the freedom of being a 51-year-old musician. Do what you want, nobody’s expecting anything.”]
