“Air Anatolia” brings together the trailblazers of the Turkish psychedelic music scene, with young generation artists and performers from the British music scene in İstanbul and London!

The pioneers of Anatolia-centred psychedelic music will take the stage both in İstanbul and London through a cross-cultural project. Air Anatolia’s,  fascinating performances through Turkish and British musicians’ new arrangements, will be held at Zorlu Performing Arts Center on October 14, and in London on November 18 as a part of the EFG London Jazz Festival supported British Council.

Cahit Berkay from Moğollar, the true legends of Anatolian psychedelia will be a key part of this superband, while be musical directors Veyasin (ModeXL, Hey! Douglas) and Tolga Böyük (Islandman) from Turkey and Al MacSween (Maisha, Kefaya) from the UK also bring together a stellar line up of musicians. Melike Şahin, who became a rising star in the modern Turkish music scene with her outstanding voice and her profound lyrics, will perform as a guest singer along with the superband. Ahmet Güvenç, another legend known for his genre defining band Bunalım and his career full of highlights including his work with Cem Karaca’s Kardaşlar and Barıs Manço’s Kurtalan Ekspress also joins the band. Another iconic band BabaZula’s founding member Murat Ertel, creative British musicians Yazz Ahmed, Tamar Osborn, Thodoris Ziarkas, Derya Yıldırım carrying the Anatolian tradition to new generations with her Grup Şimşek and talented performers Tolgahan Çoğulu, Nilay Çelebi, Muhlis Berberoğlu and many more estimable musicians will share the same stage.

The project aims to create a new take to Anatolian Psychedelic music new compositions, arrangements of iconic tunes and familiar folk songs. 

Air Anatolia aims to unite both cities by integrating the rhythmic, melodic and improvisational attributes of Anadolu Pop, with the dynamism and creativity of UK jazz, and its openness to non-western influences and fusion and in turn serving as an example of the bond between countries. Air Anatolia will be held at Zorlu PSM on October 14 and at the Royal Festival Hall on November 18 as part of the EFG London Jazz Festival.

The project will benefit from Turkish and British musicians’ artistic input and connections. Air Anatolia is produced by EFG London Jazz Festival in collaboration with Gulbaba Records and Zorlu PSM with support from British Council international collaboration grant. It will introduce contemporary life to the musical legacy of Turkish psychedelia, demonstrating similar traditions and trends in the UK music scene, generating a popular appeal that unites young and seasoned audiences, musicians and producers under an innovative artistic and cultural umbrella.

Zorlu PSM, in its 3rd season with a totally new format, also built a new concert area that can be positioned as a winter concert area in İstanbul with a capacity of being able to host 1500 to 3500 guests standing. Turkcell Stage has been continuing both Turkish and foreign thematic standing concerts without slowing down.
