His solo career kicked off with the release of Tell Me a Tale and I'm Getting Ready EPs. A year later, he followed in the footsteps of Jessie J, Florence + the Machine, and Ellie Goulding when he was announced the winner of the prestigious BBC Sound of 2012 poll, and shortly thereafter released his debut single and album, both titled Home Again.

For his second albüm Love & Hate, he worked with with Grammy-winning producer Danger Mouse who has collaborated with such names as Jay-Z, Gorillaz and Beck. His wise-beyond-his-years singing voice and songwriting style presents itself in "Love & Hate", "Cold Little Heart" and "Black Man In A White World".

His song "Cold Little Heart" serves as the opening theme for the HBO miniseries Big Little Lies.
