Zorlu PSM presents yet another night to be remembered as a part of the Vestel #gururlayerli concerts, in collaboration with Atlantis Yapım. The orchestra of Selim Selçuk; the younger son of Münir Nurettin Selçuk, who is one of the most prominent composer/musicians of Turkish music history, will be at Zorlu PSM on June 9th with Babamın Şarkıları (Songs of My Father)!

Starting his engagement with music at age 4 with piano lessons by Jirayir Arslanyan, Selim Selçuk kicked off his professional career by playing drums and percussion in the orchestra of his older brother Timur Selçuk. He attended the Turkish Music State Conservatory after playing in the İstanbul Gelişim Orchestra, becoming a pupil of Kani Karaca. He received further education in Brooklyn Music Conservatory while living in New York between 1979 and 1983, carrying on his career as a jazz musician. After arriving at the United States for a second time in 1992, he appeared in prestigious venues and festivals such as Birdland, Auggie’s, Bar 55, CBGB’s, Pyramid Club, Downtime, Kingdom Hall, Don Hill’s, Brownies, Atlantic City, Kopenhag-Tuborg Jazz Festival, Baku Jazz Festival and Istanbul Jazz Festival. Determined to honor his father with the international acknowledgement he deserves, Selim Selçuk started to do a TV show titled Babamın Şarkıları on the state channel TRT Music, also appearing in live performances with his Selim Selçuk Orchestra.

This memorable night will feature the works of Münir Nurettin Selçuk, who is considered one of the most esteemed Turkish composers and musicians of the 20th century, played by the Selim Selçuk Orchestra, brought together from musicians of TC Kültür ve Turizm Bakanlığı Güzel Sanatlar Genel Müdürlüğü Cumhurbaşkanlığı Klasik Türk Müziği Korosu, İstanbul Tarihi Türk Müziği Topluluğu and İ.T.Ü. Türk Müziği Devlet Konservatuvarı. As Babamın Şarkıları turns into a glorious concert with 6 instruments composed of qanun, kemancha, tambour, piano, keyboard and percussion as well as 3 chorists; Dilek Türkan and Atakan Akdaş will take the stage as soloists.

Babamın Şarkıları, in which the songs of Münir Nurettin Selçuk will be performed by the Selim Selçuk Orchestra, will be at Zorlu PSM on June 9th as a a part of the Vestel #gururlayerli concerts in collaboration with Atlantis Yapım.
